You Can Turn Away

The chapter works through three generations: a righteous man, his violent son, and that son's son who sees what his father did and does not do likewise.
He shall not die for his father's iniquity; he shall surely live.
The point is that the chain is breakable. The generation in exile is not simply serving out a sentence earned by their ancestors, whatever the proverb said.
