You played the whore with the Assyrians, because you were not satisfied.
The chapter moves through empire after empire - Egypt, Assyria, Chaldea - and the word the sources use for it is insatiable. Israel went looking for every foreign god available.
That is not only religion. Military alliance and religious apostasy could not be separated in that world; each empire arrived with its gods attached. And Heiser flags a phrase in the previous verse worth noticing - your allotted portion - which is the vocabulary of nations and their assigned powers.
