Walk the valley with the King

Read the whole psalm and notice where the valley sits. It is not the beginning and it is not the end. Before it: green pastures, still waters, a restored soul. After it: a table, an anointed head, an overflowing cup - and all of that set "in the presence of my enemies."
That last detail is easy to skip. David does not describe being rescued out of the danger. He describes being fed in the middle of it, with the threat still in the room. The valley is walked through, not around, and the reason given for not fearing is not that the valley is short. It is four words long: "for you are with me."
