The Cost of Sacrifice: It Is Finished

Picture a rescuer walking willingly toward death, arms outstretched, to destroy the very thing that holds the captives — and in the moment of that sacrifice, the prisoners are set free, all of it at enormous personal cost. That is the shape of the gospel.
This imagery is not subtle: a Saviour willingly facing death so that others may live, the innocent standing in the place of the guilty, the monster of death destroyed and the rescued set free.
The gospel is not "the obedience of perfection" — nothing we do. It is not "the obedience of comprehension" — we don't need a theology degree. It is "the obedience of faith" (Rom 1:5) — full trust in what was done for us by someone else. The last words Jesus spoke on the cross were: "It is finished" (John 19:30). Not "it is getting there." Not "it depends on you now." Finished.
