Ezekiel 33 gives us a vivid picture of a watchman's crucial role in ancient society. Just as a physical watchman must warn of earthly peril, spiritual leaders and indeed, all believers who understand God's truth, have a sacred duty to warn others of spiritual danger and coming judgment. This warning is not about condemnation but about mercifully communicating the reality of sin and its consequences, and pointing people to the safety found only in God. To withhold this truth, to remain silent when God's word clearly identifies threats to the soul, is to fail in an essential obligation.
