The Story Isn’t Over

I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered.
It is exodus language, and it is a promise. But read the rest of the sentence: with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out.
The regathering in this chapter is not soft. What follows it is a wilderness trial, where God says he will purge out the rebels from among them, and that they shall not enter the land of Israel.
