The Lord Reverses Fortunes

Ezekiel’s closing line in chapter 17 powerfully announces the Lord’s absolute sovereignty. He declares His unique power to reverse fortunes: He brings low the high tree and makes the low tree high; He dries the green tree and makes the dry tree flourish. This declaration is not merely a statement of ability, but a divine promise of intervention and transformation.

For us today, this passage offers profound encouragement and a call to humility. It reminds us that our circumstances are never beyond God's reach. When we feel "low" or "dry," struggling with adversity or despair, we can trust that the Lord is capable of elevating us and making us flourish in unexpected ways. Conversely, it cautions against pride when we are "high" or "green," for God alone determines who rises and who falls. His promise, "I have spoken, and I will do it," assures us that His plans for restoration and justice will unfailingly come to pass, often in ways that completely overturn human expectations.
