After all the judgment in this chapter comes a purpose clause: that they may be my people, and I may be their God.
That sentence is not generic. It is the covenant formula from Leviticus 26, the climax of the covenant God made with Israel. The whole point of the purge is to get back to it.
But the route is not comfort. The sources are blunt: the only way this relationship gets restored is to clean house. It is not a positive message, and it is aimed at restoration anyway.
