God answers the proverb by replacing it. I will put an end to this saying, and they shall use it no more as a proverb in Israel. Say to them instead: the days are near, and the fulfilment of every vision.
The verses that follow press it harder - it shall no longer be delayed.
The sources have little to say about this verse on its own beyond the framing of the whole unit, which is that God is demolishing the excuse that nothing ever happens.
