The Branch Comes From God

There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
Branch is a title, not a one-off image. The same cluster runs through Jeremiah, Zechariah and Ezekiel - tsemach, netser, choter - and it is not simply dynastic shorthand for a descendant of David.
Notice where these branch passages keep putting their tree. Several of them combine branch language with God's mountain, and the sources say that is not a coincidence. The legitimate king is the one who comes from God's garden, from the place where God lives.
