Salvation Beyond Birthright

I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them.
There is a problem with reading that literally. At the time Ezekiel wrote, David had been dead for roughly four hundred years. The text is not promising a resurrection of the historical king.
It is one of the clearest messianic texts in the prophets, and one of the most underread. And the context sharpens it: the judgment just before is between sheep and sheep - inside Israel, not merely Israel against the nations.

Belonging to the flock was never the same as being safe in it. The question was always which shepherd you followed.
