Presence Is a Gift

The glory of the Lord went up from the midst of the city and stood on the mountain east of it. That is the Mount of Olives, and this is the last stage of the departure.
The commentators note the pause again - as if loth to go further, still standing by in case there should be repentance. Even the final step is taken slowly.
And the route matters. When the glory returns in chapter 43, it comes back by the same eastern road it left by.
