OT in NT 47: David's Tent

The inclusion of Gentiles, meaning non-Israelite people, into God's redemptive plan fulfills ancient prophecies concerning the rebuilding of David's fallen "tent" or "booth." This is not a new or unexpected development, but rather the carrying out of God’s established purpose. The Prophets spoke of a future time when a restored Davidic rule would encompass all nations, not just Israel, bringing them to glorify God's mercy.
This understanding is rooted in the prophecy of Amos, who declared, "I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen... that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations who are called by my name." This prophetic declaration promised that God would restore David's dynasty, and as a result, the "remnant of mankind" and "all the nations who are called by my name" would be gathered. This restoration, as cited in Acts, signifies the Messiah’s renewed reign, which extends its embrace to all peoples. Similarly, Romans utilizes the prophets to show that Gentiles would join in glorifying God because of His rich mercy and that their hope would be found in the "root of Jesse," a direct reference to the Messiah’s Davidic lineage.
Therefore, when we see Gentiles coming to faith, we witness the direct fulfillment of these ancient, divinely inspired words. It reassures us that God's plan has always been expansive, encompassing all humanity in His redemptive purpose, not as an afterthought but as a central feature of the Messiah's restored rule. Your faith can be strengthened by recognizing that the inclusion of people from every nation is a pivotal, promised aspect of God's unfolding kingdom.
