OT in NT 44: Passover Lamb

Jesus is the Passover Lamb who brings deliverance from bondage and death. This identity as the Passover Lamb means that His sacrificial death is directly connected to the historic deliverance of God’s people. The imagery and significance of the Passover lamb from the Old Testament are perfectly fulfilled in the person and work of Jesus Christ, marking Him as the ultimate sacrifice providing salvation.
The New Testament interprets Jesus' death through the lens of the Passover narrative found in Exodus. Specifically, the Old Testament instructed that "It shall be eaten in one house... and you shall not break any of its bones," referring to the Passover lamb. The Gospel of John draws a direct parallel to this ancient command when describing Jesus' crucifixion, stating, "These things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: Not one of his bones will be broken." Furthermore, the Apostle Paul explicitly declares this connection, proclaiming, "Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed." This demonstrates a consistent understanding across the New Testament that Jesus is the fulfillment of this foundational Old Testament prototype, where sacrifice and deliverance are inextricably linked in His person.
This profound connection means that Jesus' death is not merely a historical event but an “exodus-shaped delivery” for all who believe. Just as the Passover lamb's sacrifice historically brought freedom to the Israelites, so too does the sacrifice of Jesus, our Passover Lamb, create a redeemed people.
