OT in NT 23: Beast From Daniel

The scripture shows us that the imagery of terrifying beasts emerging from the sea, as seen in Daniel, represents powerful earthly kingdoms. For instance, Daniel 7:1-8 describes "Four great beasts came up out of the sea... different from one another," clearly portraying these as violent imperial powers. This imagery signifies earthly authorities that rise up in opposition to God and His people throughout history.
Daniel's vision in Daniel 7:17-27 reveals that "These four great beasts are four kings... the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom..." This highlights that though these beastly kingdoms oppose the holy ones, they are ultimately subject to God's judgment, and God's true kingdom will be given to His saints. The book of Revelation reuses this powerful beastly language, as in Revelation 13:1-10 where John sees "a beast rising out of the sea," and in Revelation 17:8-14 where "The beast that you saw was, and is not... They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them..." This re-application of Daniel’s symbolism serves to expose rebellious empires, counterfeit worship, and the need for enduring faithfulness among believers.
This understanding is critical for Christian discernment today because it teaches us to recognize worldly systems that act as counterfeit lords, challenging God's authority and His people. The appearance of beastly power is not confined to ancient history or specific political regimes; rather, it represents any worldly empire or ideology that elevates itself against God. By grasping this continuous thread from Daniel to Revelation, you are called to develop the endurance and faith of the saints, understanding that despite the opposition these earthly powers present, the Lamb will ultimately conquer as Lord of lords and King of kings. This teaches you not to be swayed by the apparent strength of worldly powers but to place your trust in God's ultimate victory.
