OT in NT 16: Hebrews and Council

The book of Hebrews boldly proclaims Jesus Christ’s supremacy over all heavenly powers. It asserts that His position is elevated far above all other spiritual beings, demonstrating His unparalleled authority and divine nature.
Hebrews establishes this truth by carefully drawing together various passages from the Old Testament concerning the divine world and re-contextualizing them around the person of the Son. For example, Old Testament scriptures that call heavenly beings to worship, such as Deuteronomy 32:43 ("Rejoice with him, O heavens... for he avenges the blood of his children... and cleanses his people's land."), are applied to the Son. Passages like Psalm 2:7 ("You are my Son; today I have begotten you."), which names the royal Son, and Psalm 82:1 ("God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment."), which positions God over the divine council, are also used. Hebrews 1:5-14 further argues this point by contrasting the Son with angels, stating: "To which of the angels did God ever say, You are my Son?... Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool..." This powerful synthesis reveals that while angels are spirits sent to serve, the Son is divinely enthroned and worthy of worship.
