No Shelter in Idolatry

The glory of God does not leave Jerusalem all at once. It goes in stages, and Ezekiel records each one.
Here the cherubim lift their wings and the glory stops at the entrance of the east gate. Not gone - moved. Commentators describe it as a staged departure, the glory pausing as if reluctant to leave.
That pause is the point. Judgment in Ezekiel is not a loss of temper. The withdrawal is slow enough to be watched, and slow enough to be interrupted.
