Lot Offers Daughters

This is one of the passages people quietly skip. Lot offers his two daughters to a mob to protect his guests, and the text records it without a word of approval.
It is worth being clear about what the verse is and is not doing. It is not holding Lot up as a model; Genesis is frequently content to report appalling behaviour without comment and let you draw the conclusion. What it does establish is the plain sense of the mob's demand - Lot's daughters have "not known any man", which fixes the meaning of the verb the crowd used outside.
