Keep Yourselves in God's Love

Jude exhorts us to "Keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life." This isn't a passive waiting, but an active, intentional abiding. It means cultivating our relationship with God through obedience, prayer, and attentiveness to His word. The love of God is not something we earn or lose based on performance, but rather a constant flow into which we must continually place ourselves. Our responsibility is to remain within the sphere of His affection, rather than drifting away.
The early church, to whom Jude wrote, faced significant challenges from false teachers who had crept in unnoticed. These individuals distorted the grace of God, encouraging immoral behavior and denying the sovereignty of Christ. Jude's audience would have been particularly susceptible to spiritual drift amidst such deceit. His call to "keep yourselves" was therefore a crucial directive for spiritual survival and perseverance in a hostile environment, grounding believers in the fundamental truths of their faith and the expectation of Christ's return.
This command shapes our worship by reminding us that our adoration is not merely an emotional experience, but a conscious act of remaining in God's love.
