Isaiah's Prophecy Against Hypocrites

“You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said: ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’” (Matthew 15:7-9 ESV). Here, Jesus directly quotes Isaiah, indicting those who perform outward acts of worship while their inner devotion is absent. He exposes the heart of hypocrisy: a disconnect between external religiosity and genuine adoration. Their worship is rendered meaningless because it prioritizes human traditions and rules over true reverence for God and His law.
