Impregnable City's Fall

They shall destroy the walls of Tyre and break down her towers, and I will scrape her soil from her and make her a bare rock.
Tyre's reputation was untouchable. The place was impregnable - an island fortress that had outlasted siege after siege.
The prophecy has a long fuse. Nebuchadnezzar took the mainland but not the island; Tyre lost independence rather than existence. It was Alexander, in 332 BC, who finally took the island - by building a causeway of stone and rubble out to it across the water.
