Idolatry betrays the Giver

You took the beautiful jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself images.
Read that slowly. The gold was his. The silver was his. They were melted down and recast as idols - the gifts converted into rivals.
Heiser notes what the images actually were, and the text is not coy about it. He also explains the sexual grammar of the chapter: Israel is cast as the bride, which is why the idols are described the way they are.
