Hope can grow under pressure

Notice that Paul does not say suffering produces hope. He puts two steps in between, and they take time: suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, and only then character produces hope.
That is worth knowing on a hard day, because it means nothing has gone wrong if you are in the early part of the chain and cannot feel any hope yet. And Paul does not leave the conclusion hanging on your progress through it. He gives a reason hope will not disappoint, and the reason is not your resilience: God's love has already been poured into your heart through the Spirit.
