Hidden Loyalties Matter

The man in view is specific: the one who worships another god in his heart and then comes to God for an answer.
The judgment on him is public. I will set my face against that man and make him a sign and a byword - I will make him an example.
That phrase carries weight. Setting my face against and cut off from among his people is the formula Leviticus uses for Molech worship and necromancy - the death-penalty idolatry statutes. Hidden loyalty is treated as a capital matter, not a private inconsistency.
