Grace after betrayal

After sixteen chapters of the most brutal imagery in the Old Testament, God says: yet I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish for you an everlasting covenant.
Heiser puts the question the way it should be put. Think of your spouse as Israel in this chapter. Could you take them back? Can you even think in those terms? Well, God does.
And it is not probation. I am going to take you back, and it will be for ever. Three verses later the ground is named: when I atone for you for all that you have done.
