God Wants the Heart

Elders come from Babylon to sit in front of the prophet and ask for a word. God refuses to give them one.
The reason is what they brought with them. These men have taken their idols into their hearts - and the stumbling block of their iniquity is not a figure of speech. The phrase typically refers to the idols the people recognised as their deity, the god that is not Yahweh. Some of them are the gods of Babylon.
God knows instantly what they are really about, and who they are really aligned with.
