God Is Not So Small

Ezekiel 10 pictures more than one figure carrying the name Yahweh in the same scene, each distinct from the other: "the divine man" who carried Ezekiel to Jerusalem back in chapter 8 is still giving orders here, while "the glory of the God of Israel" rests enthroned above the cherubim as its own separate presence. Jewish readers for centuries afterward, right up through the second century AD, read this without flinching: one God showing up as two distinguishable persons at once. That wasn't a scribal slip — it's how Israel's own tradition understood its God, long before any Christian ever wrote a word about it.
This matters because the New Testament's claim that Jesus is both distinct from the Father and fully God isn't a later invention - it's the exact same pattern Ezekiel's own contemporaries were comfortable reading in their own Scripture.
