God Is Not Managed

Elders come to inquire of the Lord, and God refuses: as I live, I will not be inquired of by you.
The refusal is not about inquiry in general. It is about these inquirers, who Heiser says are just as bad as the generations before them. What they wanted was a timetable - and God's answer is that his timetable is not going to be arranged on the basis of what they want.
Block, quoted in the same discussion, puts the verdict starkly: to God the nation has historically been merely one of the Canaanite nations.
