God Holds Witness

I will spread my net over him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon and enter into judgment with him there.
That last phrase turns a military defeat into a legal proceeding. The king is not merely captured. He is tried.
The same net image appears in chapter 12, where the sources make the theological point plainly: the Babylonian invasion and the capture of the Davidic king are under God's control. The escape attempt was never going to work.
