The Attributes of God: Freedom

When we think about how God shares freedom with us, we think of free will - the uncoerced ability to make or refuse a decision.
God's freedom certainly fits that definition. There is no greater power anywhere who could coerce him into a decision. Nothing stands over him with leverage.
But God's freedom is more than the part he shares with us. In his case, freedom means he is truly independent of everything he has made. Since he alone is uncreated, this attribute describes how God stands apart from creation in character and nature. He is in no way subject to an external power.
Then comes the line worth memorising, because it settles a great deal. God may be opposed - Scripture is full of opposition to him - but it cannot be said that God is restricted in accomplishing his will. Opposition is real. Obstruction is not possible.
That distinction is a comfort and a warning at the same time. Resistance to God is genuine, and it is never decisive.
