The Name Yahweh: He Who Causes To Be

Put the pieces together and the name starts saying something.
Scripture fixes the first vowel as A - Yah. Hebrew verbs have patterns, and an A-class vowel followed by an I-class vowel is the causative form. Applied to the verb "to be," that gives a meaning: he who causes to be. He who brings into existence.
Notice when God says it. Moses is standing at a bush being sent to bring a people out of Egypt - a nation that does not yet exist in any free or gathered sense. The name is not abstract metaphysics dropped into the conversation. It is a claim made at the exact moment God is about to bring something into being that was not there before.
It is really a statement of creation and creator: a God with the ability to make real what has not yet existed. Which is precisely what he then does with a family of slaves.
