The Name Yahweh: Why It Begins With Yah

People often say the vowels of the divine name are simply lost. Scripture is less silent than that.
The Bible keeps using the short form of the name - the first syllable on its own - and it is always with an A vowel. Yah. Always. Not Yih, not Yeh. Every hallelujah you have ever sung is halelu-Yah: praise Yah.
You can see it printed where translations let it through. In the Song of the Sea: "Yah is my strength and song, and he has become my salvation." In Isaiah: "my strength and might is Yah, Yahweh." Most English Bibles quietly render these as "the LORD," which hides the very thing worth noticing.
So the first syllable is not a guess. Scripture supplies it. Whatever uncertainty remains sits in the second half of the name, not the first - and any pronunciation beginning with Je- has already departed from what the Bible itself preserves.
