False gods consume

You took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and sacrificed them to be devoured.
The chilling word in that sentence is them. Heiser's gloss on the verse identifies who received the offering: these other gods. Not statues - recipients.
The library does not develop the child-sacrifice background at this verse; the fuller Molech material sits in Leviticus. But the identification is the point the verse turns on.
