Everyday 47: Love God

"Love for God is covenant loyalty with the whole self." This core statement clarifies that loving God is far more profound than a fleeting emotion or a mere agreement with religious concepts. Instead, it signifies a deep, unwavering commitment that encompasses every aspect of your being—your mind, emotions, and actions. It is a total devotion, an allegiance of your entire self to God.
The scriptures reveal that God does not desire a superficial religious sentiment but calls His people into a steadfast, familial relationship, established and sustained by His grace. Deuteronomy 6:4-5 declares, "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might," underscoring this call for an all-encompassing love. Jesus Himself affirmed this profound, whole-person love as the paramount commandment, the foundation upon which all other divine instructions rest, stating in Matthew 22:37-40, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." This kind of love is not a decision made in the past and then forgotten; it is an ongoing, enduring loyalty that finds its tangible expression in obedience, as 1 John 5:3 confirms: "This is the love of God, that we keep his commandments." Therefore, biblical faith is never content with mere intellectual assent to truths but is realized through demonstrating loyal obedience to God.

It challenges us to examine whether our love for God is truly permeating every area of our lives, influencing our thoughts, passions, and daily choices.
