Everyday 41: False Teaching

Discernment is a deep commitment and loyalty to the truth of Christ, a faithfulness that goes beyond mere intellectual assent. It means recognizing and cleaving to what is genuinely true about Jesus and His teachings, understanding that this truth is the foundation of our faith.
The Apostle Paul, in Acts 20:28-31, gravely warned the elders to "Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock... fierce wolves will come in among you... speaking twisted things..." He knew that the church would face those who would deliberately distort sound doctrine. Similarly, 2 Peter 2:1 cautions us about "False teachers... will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them..." Such teachers subtly introduce errors that can undermine the core of Christian belief. Additionally, Titus 3:10 advises the church to address those who cause division, stating, "As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him." These passages collectively highlight the persistent danger of false teaching and internal strife within the community of believers.
