Everyday 37: Baptism

Baptism is a public declaration of your allegiance to Jesus Christ, setting you apart as one who now belongs to the family of the crucified and risen King. This act is not a religious performance by which you earn favor with God; rather, it is a visible sign of a new identity in Christ that has already taken place within you.
Scripture teaches that baptism unites you with Christ’s death and resurrection, signifying that you are “dead to sin” and now “alive to God,” so that sin “no longer rules” your life. As recorded in Acts 2:38, baptism follows sincere repentance and marks the forgiveness of sins received through faith in Jesus’ name. First Peter 3:21 further describes this act as an "appeal to God for a good conscience," a pledge of loyal trust and devotion that is made possible through the victorious resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Through baptism, you outwardly express the profound inward transformation God has accomplished in your life. This powerful symbol reminds you that you have been brought into union with Christ's death to sin and his resurrection to walk in "newness of life." It serves as a personal covenant, a public pledge of your loyalty and dependence on Christ's work, affirming that His promise of forgiveness and new life is indeed for you.
