Everyday 33: Church as Family

The teaching highlights that God seeks a faithful family, rather than mere religious compliance. This understanding means that the church is not merely an event or a service to be passively consumed, but rather a community of people who belong to God, actively living out a new identity in unity.
The book of Acts illustrates this family life in practice, detailing their devotion to the apostles' teaching and their fellowship, their shared meals and prayers, and their remarkable generosity, with some "selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need." The letter to the Hebrews reinforces this, urging this family gathered together to "consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together." Furthermore, 1 Peter defines this community's identity and purpose, declaring, "You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession," established to proclaim God's excellencies.
This truth is vital because the church is a people formed by the Holy Spirit, not a product of human design or effort. Belonging to this spiritual family encompasses and requires worship, spiritual formation, mutual care for one another, and unified witness as the very household of God in the world.
