Everyday 28: Bible Context

A verse pulled out of its surroundings can say something Scripture never intended. On the road to Emmaus, Jesus rebuked his own followers for not understanding: "beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself" (Luke 24:27) - the whole Old Testament, read in its actual context, was already pointing to him. In Acts 17:11, the Bereans are commended precisely because they didn't take Paul's word for it - they were "examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so." Context and careful examination aren't optional extras to faith; they're how the earliest believers actually handled the text.
This matters because good Bible reading isn't about extracting isolated verses to prove a point - it's the same patient, whole-text attentiveness that Jesus himself modeled and the Bereans practiced.
