Everyday 22: Image of God Worth

In the ancient world, when a king wanted to claim authority over a territory, he set up his image - a statue - to represent his presence and rule there. Genesis 1:26-27 uses that same idea: God makes humanity in his image, installing them as his representatives - not just worshippers, but co-rulers under his authority. The divine council itself doesn't carry this image - Genesis 1:26's "let us make man in our image" is spoken by the council, but the image is given uniquely to humanity, a role the heavenly court doesn't share. Psalm 8:5-6 confirms this: humanity is "crowned with glory and honor" and given "dominion" - a royal commissioning, not a statement about looks or intelligence. James 3:9 later warns against cursing others "who are made in the likeness of God" - the same dignity applies to every person, regardless of ability or status.
This matters because your worth was never about what you can do or how capable you are. It's a role you were given: to represent God's rule in the world he made.
