Everyday 19: Persecution

Faithfulness to God may indeed come with a cost, but that cost is never a waste or a vain sacrifice. Even when facing hardship or opposition, your faithful commitment to Christ holds profound meaning and purpose in the larger story of God’s redemptive plan.
We see this truth powerfully illustrated in the early church. After enduring persecution, the apostles in Acts 5:41 left "rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name." Our Lord Jesus Himself blessed those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, calling them to "Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven" (Matthew 5:10-12). Similarly, 1 Peter 4:12-16 instructs believers not to be "surprised at the fiery trial" but to glorify God when suffering as Christians, thereby enduring with steadfast hope rather than despair. The suffering that accompanies Christian witness is not a sign of failure or a pointless loss, but rather an integral part of faithful allegiance to the rejected and risen King.
Therefore, when you encounter opposition or hardship because of your faith, remember that this experience aligns you with Christ and with the faithful who have gone before you. Do not be ashamed or surprised by such trials, but instead, entrust your suffering to God and continue to do good. Your steadfastness in the face of persecution is a powerful testimony, demonstrating that your hope is in a King who has overcome the world and whose kingdom will ultimately prevail.
