Everyday 14: Fear of Demons

You are not called to fear powers that Christ has already defeated. The plain teaching of the New Testament demonstrates that the authority and victory belong to Jesus, not to any opposing spiritual force. This means that fear of demonic powers or other spiritual adversaries is misplaced for those who are in Christ.
The scriptures reveal this truth in several ways. In Luke 10:17-20, when the disciples rejoiced that "even the demons are subject to us in your name," Jesus redirected their focus, instructing them to "not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." This shows that while Christ's authority over spiritual powers is real and exercised through His people, the ultimate joy and ground for security is found in one's belonging to God. Consistent with this, Colossians 2:15 declares that Christ "disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him." This clearly asserts Christ's decisive victory over all opposing spiritual forces. Furthermore, Romans 8:38-39 offers a powerful assurance, stating, "Neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers... nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus." This comprehensive statement affirms that no angelic or ruling power possesses the ability to sever believers from God's unwavering love, which is established in Christ Jesus.
This understanding profoundly shapes your spiritual perspective and daily life. Biblical spiritual warfare is anchored in the lordship and absolute victory of Christ, not in fear of any lesser power. While spiritual adversaries are real, they are ultimately subject to Christ's authority and are not final. Therefore, you are called to live not with dread or apprehension regarding these powers, but with the confidence and joy that comes from knowing Christ has triumphed and your eternal security rests in your relationship with God through Him.
