Everyday 2: Can I Lose Salvation?

The New Testament teaches that those who belong to Christ are eternally secure, and yet this security is deeply connected to an enduring faithfulness. Jesus Himself declares in John 10:27-29, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish." This promise assures us that Christ knows His followers, leads them, and perfectly preserves them in His powerful care and the Father's hand.
This assurance of salvation is not a feeling that exists apart from our commitment to Christ; rather, it is a confident trust in the Shepherd who both protects His people and guides them in His ways. The Bible emphasizes that true faith is not merely a past decision but a present and ongoing allegiance. Hebrews 3:12-14 warns us, "Take care... lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God... we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end." Similarly, Colossians 1:21-23 states that reconciliation through Christ's death is given "if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast." These passages highlight that active faithfulness is an inseparable mark of saving grace. Our perseverance in loyalty is not a fearful effort to earn grace, but rather the natural expression that flows from it; grace cultivates this faithfulness within us. Living faith, initiated and sustained by God's grace, becomes evident through devoted obedience, demonstrating that we are growing into the reality of who we already are in Christ.
Therefore, while salvation is wholly by grace through faith, the faith that truly saves is never stagnant or lifeless. It is a dynamic, living commitment that expresses itself in ongoing loyalty to Jesus. Your confidence in your salvation should be rooted in the unwavering character of Christ to keep His promises and in the visible, enduring evidence of your own allegiance to Him, demonstrating that your faith is real and active.
