Enoch as a Type of Christ

In 1 Enoch, the bound Watchers ask Enoch to carry a petition to God on their behalf. He takes it. The answer comes back: no. He returns and delivers the refusal to their faces.
Set that beside 1 Peter 3 and the shape is unmistakable. The library note puts it directly: the Enochic imprisonment "is the background for both Enoch's descent and Christ's descent. The Enoch story is the type; the Christ event is the antitype."
Which is why Peter needed no explanation. His readers knew the Enoch story. When he wrote that Christ went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, they recognised the scene - and they recognised who was now standing in Enoch's place.
