Don’t trust the gift

You trusted in your beauty, God says, and played the whore because of your renown.
The previous verse had already settled where the beauty came from: it was perfect through the splendour that I had bestowed on you. It was a gift.
What the chapter describes is a gift turned into leverage. There is no commitment to the husband who rescued her when nobody wanted her. She could have the life she wanted, through her own beauty.
