Don’t Repeat The Rebellion

Will you judge them, son of man? Then make known to them the abominations of their fathers.
That looks like a contradiction. Chapter 18 has just insisted that nobody dies for their father's sin, and chapter 20 immediately recites the fathers' sins. Heiser raises the objection and answers it directly: the answer here is the same as it was in chapter 18 - no.
The ancestors' record explains the shape of the exile without being the whole ground of it. What makes this generation liable is that they have continued it. Block's summary of the chapter is that Israel has been idolatrous since its beginnings in Egypt.
