The Disinheritance of the Nations Across the Canon

"Arise, God, judge the earth, for you inherit all of the nations" (Psalm 82:8). This closing plea is not a stray prayer. It is tied directly back to Deuteronomy 32's original allotment of the nations, and it asks, in one breath, for that entire arrangement to be reversed.
The disinheritance of the nations is not an isolated verse tucked away in Deuteronomy; it recurs across the canon as a real structural theme, surfacing in different genres across very different centuries. Psalm 82:8 prays for the current, corrupted arrangement of divided divine oversight to end, and for all nations to be restored to Yahweh's own direct rule — the very inheritance he currently holds only indirectly, mediated through lesser, and here explicitly corrupt, authorities. First Samuel 2:8 and Zechariah 8:12 reflect the same underlying conviction: that Yahweh's ultimate purpose was never bounded by Israel alone but extends to every nation he presently governs only at one remove, and that his throne will one day gather in what it presently only oversees from a distance. Paul draws on this exact vocabulary when he warns the Corinthian church that the sacrifices of the nations are offered "to demons, not to God" (1 Corinthians 10:19-20) — language lifted directly from Deuteronomy 32:17, carried forward centuries later into a very different cultural setting because the underlying spiritual reality had not changed in the meantime, only the empires standing on top of it.
The whole trajectory anticipates a coming reversal rather than a permanent arrangement. Revelation 11:15 announces its arrival in the boldest possible terms: "The kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ. He will reign forever and ever." What Deuteronomy 32 describes as division, Psalm 82 prays to see undone, and Revelation finally declares accomplished — one continuous line, running from an ancient allotment to its ultimate, singing reversal.
