The Myth We’re Sold

Our culture is constantly presenting us with narratives of heroes and rescuers. We encounter stories of beings descending from the stars to bring healing, chosen individuals discovering incredible hidden powers, or enhanced humans achieving transcendent abilities. These widespread narratives carry a consistent message: rescue originates from external forces or from an inherent, divine presence within ourselves.
These pervasive themes subtly instruct us, shaping our understanding of where true deliverance comes from. However, while these tales may resonate with a deep-seated human desire for salvation, the Bible clearly states that there is only one true source of rescue. As Acts 4:12 declares, "And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." This truth is further emphasized in 1 Timothy 2:5, which affirms, "For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." Jesus himself draws the unwavering line in John 14:6, stating, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
The universal longing for a savior reflected in countless myths serves as a profound indicator of a spiritual reality that points directly to Christ. You can enjoy the creativity and imagination found in these stories, but it is vital not to confuse the echo of this longing with the authoritative voice of God's revealed truth. The true Rescuer has already come into the world, and He is Jesus, the only one through whom we find redemption and access to God the Father.
