This understanding stands in stark contrast to the deceptive idea that Scripture is a primitive text, somehow surpassed by modern thought, science, or alternative spiritual insights. Such a counterfeit view suggests that the Bible's claims are merely partial truths that need to be reinterpreted through human philosophies or mystical experiences, essentially replacing its inherent meaning while outwardly retaining the book itself. Psalm 19:7 further affirms this, declaring, “The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple,” underscoring the completeness and life-giving power of God’s word, which is far from obsolete or inadequate.
Therefore, you are warned to be vigilant, as Colossians 2:8 cautions: “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.” When the plain meaning of the Bible is exchanged for human interpretations that contradict its foundational truths—such as creation, the fall, sin, atonement, resurrection, and new creation—the Scripture is not honored; it is hollowed out.
