The Cosmic War Finally Settled

"The accuser of our brothers... has been thrown down, who accuses them before our God day and night. They overcame him because of the Lamb's blood, and because of the word of their testimony" (Revelation 12:10-11). The cosmic war does not drift on forever in permanent, unresolved ambiguity. It is settled, decisively, at two connected points: the cross, and a final judgment still to come.
Revelation 12 declares the accuser's legal defeat already accomplished — hurled down, his standing to bring charges before God's court finished for good. This inaugurated victory coexists, for now, with his continued, though thoroughly delegitimized, hostile activity. Revelation 20 depicts the last chapter: Satan, permitted one final assault against "the camp of the saints, the beloved city," is not defeated after a hard-fought battle but instantly and completely undone, "devoured by fire that came down from heaven" (Revelation 20:9-10). This final scene deliberately echoes and reverses the ancient language of the fall described in Isaiah 14, closing a loop the whole cosmic-conflict narrative opened back in Eden's garden.
The present ambiguity that so often makes evil feel permanent, even unanswerable, dragging on with no end in sight, is real — but it is temporary and bounded, not endless. A war whose ending was announced in advance, in writing, is not the same thing as a war whose outcome is genuinely uncertain and still hanging in the balance. The accuser has already been thrown down once, his standing before God's court permanently revoked. What remains is not a real question of whether the war ends, but simply the last page of a story whose final line, the fire that finally settles it, has already been written.
