Ezekiel 39:11 declares, “On that day I will give to Gog a place for burial in Israel, the Valley of the Travelers, east of the sea. It will block the travelers. There Gog and all his hordes will be buried. It will be called the Valley of Hamon-gog.” This verse, along with verse 15, describes a burial place for Gog and his vast army, a place so significant it is named the “Valley of Hamon-gog,” meaning “the multitude of Gog.” The language used here is not merely geographical or literal; it carries profound theological weight, speaking to a destiny far beyond a simple earthly grave. The mention of “travelers” being blocked is a key indicator that we are dealing with a cosmic, rather than purely terrestrial, understanding of judgment.
The historical and biblical context reveals that the term “travelers” in this eschatological passage refers not to ordinary human wayfarers, but to the spirits of the dead, often associated with the Rephaim, who are understood to cross into the underworld.
